More than just another suspension bridge
The link enhances the attractiveness of the region to tourists, and by revitalising the ski lifts, hotels, restaurants and mountain huts, it creates economic benefits for the areas along the hiking route, but especially in the economically weak region of Goms.
The suspension bridge over the Weisswasser breaks down the natural border between the Aletsch plateau and the Goms and promotes cooperation and cohesion between the municipalities. The suspension bridge brings shorter ascents and descents to the surrounding villages and, as well as enhancing the range of one-day hikes in the region, makes it possible to do interesting hiking tours lasting several days.
The Aspi-Titter suspension bridge over the 120-metre-deep Weisswasser gorge at the foot of the Fiescher glacier is the last piece of the puzzle that makes up a continuous high-level hiking trail from the Gotthard region to the Lower Valais. Located at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it not only connects the two municipalities of Bellwald and Fieschertal, but also brings the Aletsch region and the district of Goms together.
