Charming, leisurely snowshoe hike west of the resort with views of the Fieschertal. Starts and ends in the hamlet of Ried.

This panoramic circular hike starts in the sleepy hamlet of Ried, which is close to the center of Bellwald and reachable by ski bus. The path leads clockwise over the sunny slopes above the village. The mostly open terrain facing southwest offers a wide view over the Fieschertal and beyond.

The path initially goes uphill, then ascends by hairpin bends to the Mutti viewpoint. A gentle descent leads back to Ried.

The hamlet is a relaxed walk from the center of Bellwald (snowshoes not required). If time allows, it is worth lingering here a bit: the village is one of the oldest and best-preserved in Valais and full of historical charm.

Additional information

The hike begins at the lower end of the winding alley that once was the lifeline of the hamlet Ried. The path first leads a few hundred meters gently downhill before the climb through the Fieschertal begins, followed by a series of short hairpin bends up to Mutti.

Here the path turns south and leads comfortably back to Ried.

To get from the center of Bellwald or from the parking lots at the valley station of the Richenen chairlift to the starting point of the hike in Ried, just follow the cleared paths (normal outdoor footwear is sufficient). In Ried you then put on your snowshoes.
